Frequently asked questions
Is Gateway Lines Ocean Rates free to use?
Yes. Gateway Lines Ocean Rates is a free ocean freight rate search for supported port pairs. You can review current FCL spot rates at oceanrates.gatewaylines.com with 5 free rate views a week and a quick one-time email to keep it fair.
How often are Gateway Lines ocean rates updated?
Weekly. Fresh market reads land every Monday, and each lane shows the current rate plus how it has trended over recent reads.
Are these spot rates or contract rates?
Everything on the board is a spot rate: an instant, one-off market price for the soonest sailing, refreshed regularly. If you ship dedicated lanes or regular volume, Gateway Lines sets you up with contracted rates instead, which are locked to your lanes and run meaningfully lower than spot. Reach out through Book now or a quote request and mention your volume to get contracted pricing.
What does FAK mean?
Freight All Kinds. It is a standard full-container rate that covers most general commodities, so you can get a rate without specifying an exact commodity.
Is a Gateway fee added to the rate?
No. The displayed number is the raw market rate for a full container on that lane. Surcharges, equipment, and final terms are confirmed at booking.
Which lanes are covered?
Major trans-Pacific and global ocean lanes, for example Shanghai to Long Beach, Ningbo to New York, and Shenzhen to Savannah. Search any port pair; if we donβt have it yet, you can request a quote.
How many rates can I see?
Five free rate views per week. Ship with Gateway Lines for unlimited rates, contracted pricing, and direct, lower rates.
How accurate are the rates?
They are our own rates, not estimates. Each rate is what it costs to ship the lane now, and the trend line shows genuine month-over-month movement.
How do I book a lane?
Reveal a lane and hit Book now. It sends your lane and contact details to our team, who confirm the booking and next steps.
